ABOUT
Hello!
I’m TJ, a leading marketing and data-analytics specialist with a focus on growth marketing and data-driven, iterative advertising. I have a passion for the media and entertainment landscape, data-driven creative, and the psychology of decision making.
I currently work as the Lead Creative Strategist at Tubescience, an iterative performance video company that’s pioneering new techniques in the frontier of online advertising.
I’ve also worked as a freelance filmmaker, writer and photographer for documentaries, music videos, commercials and more.
I’m always open to collaborating on projects, so feel free to drop me a line.
…AND IF YOU HAVE THE TIME, READ MY WHOLE STORY
Little TJ fell in love with movies at the age of five when his parents finally let their dinosaur-obsessed son watch Jurassic Park on VHS. Like any other good and over-protective parents would do, they had edited out all of the film’s deaths by hand. Despite a lackluster climax, 5 year old me was enthralled, and soon started asking around about how one could make a movie. Soon after, I got my hands on a mini DV.
Since then, I’ve been watching, directing, producing, animating, and editing videos in all of my spare time; I’ve even gotten to see the entirety of JURASSIC PARK.
I went to a school called Harvard, where I majored in the closest thing to Film I could ("Visual and Environmental Studies") and spent a summer in Berlin at the Deutsch Film und Fernsehen Akademie. Outside of class, I spent most of my free time building a company called HSA Video, now Mt. Auburn Productions, which to this day tapes live events, and produces commercials, music videos, and more in Boston, MA. I also was on the tech crew, and made videos for, the Hasty Pudding Theatricals, wrote and directed for the live comedy show S.K.E.T.C.H., filmed and directed for CS50 (a class taken by over a hundred thousand online!), edited and directed for the Harvard Law Documentary Studio, directed for comedy show On Harvard Time, and more.
At the same time, I also discovered a love for coding and Psychology, eventually minoring in Computer Science. Since then, I’ve looked for ways to bring my love of film and my love of analytical thinking together.
After graduating, I worked for two executives at Marc Platt Productions (La La Land, Drive, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) and then for director Malcolm Venville at Anonymous Content. Like many young Hollywood upstarts, I quickly realized “the industry” wasn’t for me, and then decided to find another route. I spent a year tutoring students in everything from test prep to physics, while freelance directing, editing, photographing, and writing on the side– BEFORE finding my current job at Tubescience, where my expertise in production, computer science and data analytics have helped me build my way to Lead Creative Strategist in less than a year.
On the side of this exciting new role, I still find time for photography, writing and other creative endeavors.
